Take A Moment

It is easy to get lost. Take a moment to find yourself.

When was the last time that you were present? The last time that you allowed everything society tells you is important to melt away and fully feel what is happening around you at the moment.

This morning, I was standing in the middle of the dog park atop a compilation of pressed mud and twisted strings of dry grass. The soles of my flip-flops caked with the batter. I closed my eyes and breathed in the breeze deeply as it caressed my cheeks. For a moment I was amazed at how the same wind that whips, cracks, and bites in a storm can also be so kind. She brought attention to the warmth on my skin as she chilled it. The sun shone behind me. Wisps of clouds in the brilliant blue sky kept the light soft amongst the trees. The trees swayed politely, almost as if waving hello.

Hidden vocalists chirped on either side of me, singing praises to the day. Squirrels rustled between the foliage. My dog, a lean pointer, galloped playfully across the yard. My heart soared.

Leaves rolled with nature’s occasional gusts. A lone hawk flew widely above the open field, silently expressing his freedom. The chain link containing the park seemed out of place in his presence.

Tires rumbled softly against the pavement to my right and faint mummers were carried on the wind. As I, families were enjoying the day. A white plane whistled as it sped overhead, whisking people away. My lips crested with a smile, wishing the moment could forever stay.

Clanking metal then welcomed a new friend. Excited paws batted the ground and panted yips rang out in play.

I encourage you to take a moment if that’s all you have today. Let your soul dance with the wind. When the music’s over, you’ll know that it’s a gift to be present.
